The basics One-day workshop Sunday, July 26, 2026. 9am-about 4pm 90 minute lunchbreak on your own. Participants should have some prior handbuilding experience. Capped at 6 participants. Description In this workshop the student will learn about hand building an Oil Can Pitcher. They will expand their knowledge of different ways of finishing the surface of the piece by using stencils and layering underglaze colors on the clay to create a dynamic surface design. We will discuss size and proportion in the class to ensure that their pieces work as a whole unit. At the end of the workshop, the student will have a finished piece and the skills and hopefully the inspiration to continue making more art. Skill requirements: This workshop is designed for anyone with a working knowledge of the basic techniques of creating a hand-built piece without step-by-step instructions. It is not appropriate for those without some prior ceramics experience. About the instructor: Stephen Palmer, long-time instructor at studios around the area, will join us for 2 full-day workshops this summer and fall. Stephen is known for his hand-built pieces, including teapots, small sculptures, and forms that lie somewhere in between. Most of all, he is known for creating pots with a lot of character and attention to detail. His work in influenced by the stuff of childhood and Jules Verne. Learn more about Stephen at his website . Make sure you’re logged in when you sign up in order to receive it.) The fee includes instruction, clay, use of studio tools, and firing of pieces created during the workshop (1-3 small to medium pieces) . . Where?
