Humble, originally from Virginia Beach, VA, has spent the last 10 years adorning walls around the world. His early academic career in philosophy/religious studies has heavily influenced his methodology in both living and creating art; there is always a search for something deeper and meaningful in his practice. His style is both playful and adaptive, often focusing on realism while blending elements of pop-graphic to create a bold and imaginative image. His art pushes to connect communities, raise questions around existentialism and naturalism, and – most importantly – beautify the walls we build around us. Although he currently resides in New York City, where he has spent the last several years pursuing his artistic practice in both studio work and public art, he often spends time painting and creating on the road; his focus has been creating public art in many different states within the USA and internationally.
“This piece aims to embody the feeling of chasing after something, utilizing a natural splendor of Waynesboro as it’s main visual subject; the trout. When initially creating for this project, I had wanted to pay homage to the fly fishing culture that is housed within Waynesboro and its surrounding areas. I also really love the symbolism that surrounds the trout, they swim against the current to breathe, spawn, etc – performing their vital functions in opposition of the natural flow of water. I believe that sometimes we must also go against our “current” in order to succeed, raising the existential question around, “What drives us? Lures us forward into the unknown?” Complacency is a killer in the creative field and often times doesn’t allow for artistic growth – because of this we must sometimes oppose, or disrupt, the flow we are in order to achieve our purpose. This existential spirit and questioning drove the creation of the artwork.” -Humble
